IT Home, October 23 - According to AndroidAuthority, a leak from Google's gChips division has revealed the manufacturing process for the company's upcoming chip. Since Google switched to its custom Tensor chips in its Pixel series, many consumers have complained about the poor battery life and heat management. Google is about to rectify this by switching from Samsung to TSMC.
IT Home has learned that the Pixel 10 series, expected to launch next year, will be powered by the Google Tensor G5 (codenamed "laguna") chip, which will be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm N3E process. This is the same process node used by Apple for its A18/Pro and M4 chips in the iPhone 16 series.
Further documents indicate that the Tensor G6 (codenamed "malibu") will be manufactured using TSMC's upcoming N3P node, reportedly also intended for Apple's A19 chip. The use of these two advanced process nodes suggests that Google is taking its upcoming Tensor chips seriously. The publication points out that the previous generations of chips always used outdated technology, and using modern process nodes is definitely a good step towards making them more competitive.
It's worth noting that TSMC's 3nm process node is considered one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies available today, offering higher performance, lower power consumption, and smaller chip size. This means that the Tensor G5 chip will see significant improvements in both performance and power efficiency, potentially addressing the battery life and heat issues in the Pixel 10 series.
Google's choice of TSMC's 3nm process for the Tensor G5 chip also highlights its commitment to chip performance and efficiency. This move will not only enhance the competitiveness of Pixel phones but also bolster its position in the mobile chip market.
The Tensor G5 chip is expected to launch alongside the Pixel 10 series, bringing a new level of user experience.
