The vivo X200/Pro series smartphones officially went on sale on October 19th. However, some users have reported a flare phenomenon in the X200 Pro, sparking widespread online discussion. Addressing this issue, vivo's Vice President of Products, Huang Tao, issued a lengthy response today, explaining the cause of the flare phenomenon on the X200 Pro and pledging to resolve it through software and hardware optimization.

Firstly, Huang Tao clarified the nature of the flare phenomenon: it is caused by the reflection of light between lens elements, a longstanding technical challenge in optical photography. He further pointed out that the flare phenomenon observed on the X200 Pro is "off-frame flare," meaning the strong light source is outside the framing area, but the light still enters the lens and creates flare.

Huang Tao acknowledged that the X200 Pro is more susceptible to off-frame flare compared to other products, and the flare perception is more noticeable. He attributed this to two factors:

1. f/1.57 Large Aperture Design: The X200 Pro's main camera uses a super-large aperture of f/1.57, which, while beneficial for low-light photography, makes it more prone to off-frame flare triggered by light.

2. Coating Technology Strategy: The X200 Pro's coating technology excels in handling radial and petal flare (ghosting) from night scene light sources, but it compromises slightly in the blue spectrum, leading to blue off-frame flare, which stands out more than the gray flare on other products.

Huang Tao stated that vivo has not adequately controlled off-frame flare on the X200 Pro, failing to meet the needs of users seeking an ultimate scene experience. He promised to address the issue through the following measures:

1. Software Updates: To alleviate concerns, software functionality will be optimized through OTA updates as soon as possible.

2. Accessory Optimization: Customized accessory optimization solutions will be expedited and offered free of charge to users in need.

Huang Tao emphasized that vivo is committed to delivering the best imaging in the industry and promised continued efforts to strengthen capabilities and push boundaries. He expressed gratitude for user and media feedback, acknowledging it as the driving force behind product experience enhancements.

Finally, Huang Tao invited users to join the vivo User Advisor Program and announced that he would invite 20 users who actively participate in the discussion to visit vivo headquarters for a face-to-face exchange. He extended thanks again for user feedback and suggestions, promising to continue listening and valuing them to create products that deliver the ultimate experience.

The emergence of the vivo X200 Pro flare issue highlights vivo's shortcomings in product design and testing. It also reflects the increasing importance of mobile photography experience for users. vivo's proactive response to the issue and commitment to optimization demonstrate its commitment to user experience. It is believed that through software and hardware enhancements, the vivo X200 Pro will better meet user needs for a cutting-edge photography experience and continue to lead the way in mobile imaging technology.
