According to tech analyst JeffPu, the top-of-the-line iPhone 17 Pro Max launching next year will feature a smaller Dynamic Island. This confirms information he first shared back in May. In an earlier research report released by investment bank Haitong International this month, Pu stated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will employ a technology called metalens for Face ID, resulting in a "significantly reduced" Dynamic Island on the device. He expects this change to be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and not apply to the smaller iPhone 17 Pro or any other iPhone 17 models.
Traditional iPhone cameras utilize curved lenses that redirect light to the image sensor. Metalens, on the other hand, is a thin, flat lens featuring microscopic patterns that allow it to focus light with greater precision. This new type of lens enables more compact camera designs, ultimately leading to a smaller Dynamic Island.
