The Black Technology Behind Xiaomi 15's Ultra-Narrow Four-Sided Screen: LIPO Encapsulation and 480nm Blue Light Curing
Xiaomi's official Weibo recently announced that the Xiaomi 15 will be equipped with a stunning 1.38mm ultra-narrow four-sided Super Sunlight Screen. This screen not only utilizes a proprietary M9 luminous material and a dual micro-cavity screen structure, resulting in higher luminous efficiency and lower power consumption, but also features the innovative LIPO encapsulation technology behind it.
LIPO encapsulation technology is a technique that utilizes photosensitive resin to protect COP flex cables. The photosensitive resin, like amber, can perfectly solidify the COP flex cables inside, shielding them from external damage. When blue light is applied to the liquid photosensitive resin, it rapidly solidifies into a solid, encapsulating the COP flex cables firmly. This technology not only allows the screen glass to retract inwards, reducing the bottom bezel, but also enhances the protection of the luminous panel itself, thereby improving screen reliability.
To achieve the ultra-narrow four-sided design with a 1.38mm bezel, Xiaomi engineers conducted in-depth research and optimization of the LIPO encapsulation technology. Before curing, the photosensitive resin and screen are sealed together in a mold, while the blue light wavelength used during the curing process must be able to penetrate the mold with poor light transmittance. After multiple validations and adjustments, Xiaomi ultimately selected 480nm blue light for photocuring and improved efficiency by shortening the curing time.
It is worth noting that during the separation of the mold and photosensitive resin, it is crucial to ensure a high yield rate during demolding. Therefore, Xiaomi has developed a self-developed photocuring production line specifically for mold photocuring. This production line ensures the stability of the mold shape, but each mold needs to be remade after approximately 10 uses.
Xiaomi 15's 1.38mm ultra-narrow four-sided screen is realized thanks to these innovative technologies like LIPO encapsulation and 480nm blue light curing.
