Recently, the YouTube channel AppleDemoYT uncovered a mysterious iPhone prototype, dubbed "VesicaPiscis," and released a video detailing its features. This device isn't a fully-fledged iPhone like we're accustomed to, but rather an experimental platform for testing new functionalities. Its most striking feature is the absence of the Apple logo, replaced by a symbol resembling two crescent moons. This symbol isn't new, having been previously observed on Apple prototype devices, such as early versions of the AirTag.

"VesicaPiscis" is actually a mathematical shape, known in Latin as "the bladder of a fish," formed by the intersection of two circles with the same radius. This symbol holds significance in architecture, art, and various other fields.

This prototype appears to utilize parts from the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro, but with some noticeable differences. The volume and power buttons lack the usual click when pressed, hinting at Apple's abandoned plan to implement haptic feedback buttons in the iPhone 15. Additionally, the prototype features a single combined volume button rather than separate ones, and the SIM card tray is modified, shorter than its standard counterpart and secured with screws.

Furthermore, some internal components, like the camera, are non-functional and seem to be placeholders. The number of internal cables connected to the logic board is minimal, with only one connecting to the charging port and another to the device's buttons. Upon turning on the prototype, a message displays regarding the microcontroller initialization completion. When connected to a Mac, it is labeled as "Bender," possibly a reference to the Futurama series.

According to the serial number, this prototype was produced in May 2021, even before the iPhone 13 Pro. However, it doesn't seem to be a prototype for the iPhone 13 Pro as the latter was already finalized. AppleDemoYT speculates that "VesicaPiscis" might be a testing device for experimental features rather than a specific iPhone model prototype. It could be a platform for testing haptic key technology. For instance, it might be used to test haptic feedback effects at different pressure levels or analyze user experience with differently shaped buttons.

This enigmatic prototype offers a glimpse into Apple's exploration during the research and development process and provides new clues for future iPhone design and functionality. Although we cannot be certain whether it will directly translate into a final iPhone product, it undoubtedly serves as an exciting precursor, indicating Apple's investigation of new technologies and design directions. This suggests a future where users can expect a smarter and more convenient experience with their iPhones.
