Canalys' latest data for the global smartphone chip market share in Q3 2024 shows that while the rankings of various brands have not changed significantly, the market share has seen noticeable shifts. MediaTek continues to hold the top spot with a shipment volume of 119 million units in Q3, generating a total revenue of $26 billion. Despite a 4% year-on-year decline, MediaTek retains a commanding lead over Qualcomm with a 38% market share.
Qualcomm follows closely with 76 million unit shipments, representing a 4% year-on-year increase, securing a 24% market share and generating $38 billion in revenue. Apple comes in third with 54 million units shipped, a 9% year-on-year rise, controlling 18% of the market.
A notable highlight is HiSilicon's market share ranking sixth, yet showing a remarkable 211% growth, far exceeding its competitors. This surge is primarily driven by Huawei's full adoption of Kirin processors for its smartphones and the brand's outstanding performance in the market. Based on current trends, HiSilicon's market share is expected to continue its rapid growth.
Huawei is slated to launch its new Mate 70 series in November, which will undoubtedly feature Kirin processors, leading to a significant increase in HiSilicon's shipments. Huawei's strong comeback and the powerful performance of Kirin processors will provide robust support for HiSilicon's further climb in the chip market share.
Besides MediaTek and HiSilicon's impressive performances, other chip manufacturers showcase their competitive advantages. Qualcomm maintains its leading position in the 5G chip domain, Apple's A-series chips excel in performance and power efficiency, while Samsung drives its chip shipments through its own smartphone business.
The future of the smartphone chip market promises even fiercer competition. Chip manufacturers need to continually enhance their technological capabilities and develop more advanced chip products to stand out and succeed in this intense market rivalry.
