According to Canalys, a market analysis firm, the Latin American smartphone market continued its strong growth momentum in the second quarter of 2024, recording double-digit growth for the fourth consecutive quarter with shipments reaching 33.5 million units, up 20% year-on-year. This impressive performance highlights the continued vibrancy of the Latin American mobile phone market, with intense competition among manufacturers.

Samsung, thanks to the strong performance of its A-series, firmly held the top spot with a 30% market share and shipments of 10.2 million units, an increase of 9% year-on-year. The A-series, with its competitive pricing, is highly favored by consumers in Latin America, becoming a key factor in Samsung maintaining its lead in the region.

 Latin America

Xiaomi, with a 35% year-on-year growth, shipped 6.2 million units, jumping to second place in Latin America for the first time, with a 19% market share. Xiaomi has been developing rapidly in the Latin American market in recent years, with its products offering a high price-performance ratio and rich features, successfully attracting a large number of consumers. This first-time second place ranking marks a significant increase in Xiaomi's position in the Latin American market.

 Latin America

Motorola, with shipments of 5.7 million units, held a 17% market share, ranking third, but its shipments declined 1% year-on-year. Despite holding third place in market share, Motorola's shipments saw a decline, potentially attributable to the intensifying market competition.

Transsion Holdings, with a 9% market share and a 52% year-on-year growth, ranked fourth with shipments of 3.2 million units. Transsion Holdings has already achieved huge success in the African market and now displays strong growth momentum in the Latin American market. Its products are precisely positioned, priced affordably, and hold significant competitiveness in the mid-to-low-end market.

Honor also performed exceptionally well in Latin America this quarter, with a 47% year-on-year growth and shipments of 1.7 million units, achieving a 5% market share and ranking fifth. Honor's rapid growth in the Latin American market showcases its strong competitiveness, fueled by advantages in technological innovation and product quality.

Miguel Prez, Senior Analyst at Canalys, pointed out that major manufacturers are stimulating consumers to replace their devices sooner through their competitive pricing and aggressive pricing strategies. The intensity of this market competition is also reflected in the average selling price (ASP). The report shows that the average selling price of smartphones in Latin America fell to its lowest point since the second quarter of 2021, highlighting manufacturers' willingness to engage in price wars in their pursuit of market share.

Looking ahead, competition in the Latin American smartphone market is set to intensify further. Manufacturers need to continuously improve their product competitiveness and offer more attractive products and services to stand out in the competition and gain market share.
