Apple has recently released iOS 18 Beta 6 and iOS 18.1 Beta 2 for developers, alongside updated beta versions for iPadOS 18 and macOS 15. These updates primarily focus on refining existing features, optimizing performance, and addressing bugs in preparation for the upcoming official release.

iOS 18.1 Beta 2: Advancements in AppleIntelligence

iOS 18.1 Beta 2, with build number 22B5023e, continues the update direction set forth by iOS 18 Beta 5 last week. This includes the addition of a feature to hide distractions in the Safari browser, adjustments to the Control Center button icons, and a redesigned Photos app.

The main focus of this beta is to allow developers to test AppleIntelligence. Beta 2 introduces support for English language in Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Singapore. Support for other languages is currently unavailable but will be added later this year and in 2025, according to Apple.

The update notes in Chinese mention that AppleIntelligence is unavailable in the EU and China. However, media reports suggest that iPhones in the EU can now enable AppleIntelligence by changing the language to English. There is still no word on when AppleIntelligence will be available in China. Cook mentioned in a recent conference call that Apple is actively engaging with regulators, so there is still hope for its introduction, but it requires patience.

iOS 18 Beta 6: Detailed Improvements and Enhanced User Experience

iOS 18 Beta 6, with build number 22A5338b, features further adjustments to existing features and applications. The overall changes are relatively minor, focusing primarily on detailed improvements.

• Photos App Interface Refinement: The album list interface now displays a thumbnail on the left side, enhancing visual clarity.

• Bluetooth Switch Added to Control Center: Users can now add a Bluetooth switch to any Control Center interface or place it on the lock screen to replace the flashlight or camera button.

• Control Button List Optimization: Apple has adjusted the organization and categorization of the control button list to enable users to find desired buttons more quickly.

• Application Icon Hue Style: When using hue style, application icons will default to extracting and using the primary color of the wallpaper. Users can also customize the color. If the wallpaper is changed, the icon hue will also update accordingly.

• Notification Icon Dark/Light Mode: If dark mode icons are enabled in settings, notification app icons will now display correctly in dark mode.

It's worth noting that there are still some functional differences between iOS 18.1 Beta 2 and iOS 18 Beta 6, such as the UI of the Photos app. This is due to Apple testing both versions simultaneously, resulting in variations in certain features.

iOS 18 Official Release Imminent

Apple plans to release the official version of iOS 18.0 first. It is expected to be rolled out to all users in mid to late September, shortly after the launch of the iPhone 16. iOS 18.1 is projected to be released in October. Currently, all major features of iOS 18 are in place. Apple will continue releasing new beta versions, such as Beta 7, 8, and RC, but these updates are expected to focus on refining details, fixing bugs, and enhancing stability in preparation for the official release.
