Details about Qualcomm's upcoming flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, have recently surfaced online. This highly anticipated chip is expected to feature a cutting-edge 3nm process and Qualcomm's in-house Oryon CPU cores, promising significant improvements in both performance and power efficiency.
It's reported that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be available in two versions: SM8750 and SM8750P, with the latter potentially representing a performance or baseband-less version. The chip utilizes a 2+6 core design, encompassing two Oryon cores and six Cortex cores, with the precise configuration yet to be confirmed. In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's large core clocks up to 4.09GHz, boasting a 35% single-core boost and a 30% multi-core performance improvement, demonstrating exceptional capability.
Beyond its potent CPU prowess, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is equipped with a brand-new Adreno 8 series GPU, yielding notable enhancements in graphics performance and energy efficiency. Additionally, the chip supports four-channel LPDDR5X memory and integrates a "Low Power AI" (LPAI) subsystem dedicated to handling always-on tasks like voice, camera, and sensor tracking.
In connectivity, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 supports both mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G (Rel.17), Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 5.4, and UWB (FastConnect7900), and is embedded with a powerful NPU to cater to demanding AI computing needs.
It's noteworthy that based on leaked Geekbench 6 test results, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's performance even surpasses Apple's A17 Pro, showcasing strong competitiveness.
Qualcomm is anticipated to formally unveil Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in October this year. Xiaomi is expected to be the first brand to adopt this chip, with the Xiaomi 15 series anticipated to be the inaugural models sporting Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The arrival of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will further propel competition in the mobile chip sector. Its robust performance and advanced features hold the potential to deliver a smoother and more intelligent mobile experience for users. Looking ahead, we anticipate witnessing this chip's real-world performance and how it might reshape our usage habits.
