Apple's September 10th Event: New iPhone, Watch, and AirPods Coming Soon
Renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman reported on Friday that Apple is planning its biggest product launch of the year on September 10th, where it will unveil the latest iPhone, Watch, and AirPods. Gurman, citing sources familiar with the matter, said that while the specific time hasn't been announced, the company is gearing up for the day. Following the launch, the new phones are expected to go on sale on September 20th, consistent with Apple's recent practices.
This product launch is crucial for Apple, as sales of its smartphones and wearables have been sluggish in recent quarters. If the new iPhone 16 is released on September 20th, it means that part of its revenue will be included in the fourth-quarter financial report, which Apple expects to see a 5% year-over-year increase in revenue. A larger sales volume is expected in the next quarter, coinciding with the holiday season, where analysts predict a 7% surge in revenue for Apple, reaching $128.4 billion.
The two Pro models of the iPhone are reportedly going to feature larger screens and new camera capabilities, such as an added "photo button." Apple will also introduce a suite of AI tools called AppleIntelligence, similar to services offered by competitors like Samsung. However, overall, the four new iPhones won't be drastically different from last year's models. At this year's annual developer conference in June, Apple unveiled a long-awaited AI strategy, integrating its latest AI technologies into various applications and introducing OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT onto its devices.
Wearables are also set for some significant changes. The Apple Watch Series 10 models are rumored to be thinner but equipped with larger screens. The new smartwatch is expected to start at $399 with two size options available. Apple is also updating its AirPods lineup, with a new mid-range model expected to launch. This is reportedly the first time Apple is offering active noise cancellation (ANC) on a mid-range AirPods model, while the entry-level model is getting its first update since 2019.
The company is also planning to transition its Mac computers to M4 processors later this year, however, Mac updates usually come a month or so after the iPhone launch. To prepare for this, Apple has ramped up testing on MAC models equipped with M4 processors to ensure compatibility with third-party applications.
