Farewell to the Old, Welcome to the New: Apple to Discontinue Multiple Products Next Month

As Apple's annual fall event draws near, new products are set to debut, and with them, the discontinuation of certain older models. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the products expected to be removed from the Apple Store next month include the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, SE 2, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, iPad mini 6, and iPad 10.

iPhone Lineup Welcomes New Arrivals, Bidding Farewell to Older Models

Since the introduction of the iPhone XS and XR in 2018, Apple has maintained a pattern of discontinuing the previous generation of flagship iPhones a year after their launch. This year, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to be discontinued. This could be attributed to the significant design and feature differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro, prompting Apple to cease sales of the older model to encourage users to purchase the newer one. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro marks Apple's first iPhone with a titanium casing, and its exclusive blue titanium color may be absent from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.

It's noteworthy that the iPhone 15 Pro might also be the last Pro series iPhone to feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 Pro will sport larger screens.

As Apple's first entry-level large-screen iPhone, the iPhone 14 Plus, with its 6.7-inch display and extended battery life, appealed to a segment of users at a lower price point. However, considering Apple's decision to discontinue the iPhone 13 mini in September last year while keeping the iPhone 13 on sale, a similar strategy could be employed this year, with the iPhone 14 Plus being discontinued while the iPhone 14 remains available for a while longer.

The iPhone 13, introduced in 2021, boasts extended battery life, a revamped camera system, and a smaller notch, but it's nearing its third birthday and is the oldest iPhone currently offered on Apple's website. Following tradition, the iPhone 13 is likely to be discontinued, with the iPhone 14 taking its place as the $599 offering, at least until the release of the iPhone SE 4.

Apple Watch Series Gets a Refresh, Older Models May Be Retired

Apple is expected to update all three Apple Watch models next month: Series 10, Ultra 3, and SE 3. The Series 10 is projected to feature a larger (and more efficient) display, a thinner casing, and potentially a new chipset. The Ultra 3 is also expected to receive minor updates this year, while the SE 3 is rumored to transition to a plastic casing to reduce its price. If all Apple Watch models undergo updates, Apple will likely cease sales of the current generation Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models.

AirPods Series Welcomes New Additions, Older Models May Exit the Market

Apple has been selling the AirPods 2 since 2019 as an entry-level model, offering all the essential features at an affordable price. Despite the introduction of the AirPods 3 in 2021, featuring spatial audio, enhanced sound quality, and other improvements, Apple has kept the AirPods 2 in its lineup. However, this is likely to change soon.

Next month, Apple is anticipated to unveil two new AirPods 4 models, with an entry-level version replacing the AirPods 2 and a mid-range model taking over from the AirPods 3. The mid-range model is expected to include noise cancellation, a feature absent from the existing AirPods 2. With the launch of these two AirPods models, the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 are likely to be discontinued.

iPad Series Updated, Older Models May Bid Farewell

Apple's two most affordable iPad models, the iPad mini 6 and iPad 10, are also slated for updates next month. While Apple lowered the price of the iPad 10 earlier this year, rumors suggest an update is still in the works. Once Apple releases the iPad 11, the iPad 10 may remain available at a lower price, but discontinuation is more probable. As for the iPad mini, it's also expected to be discontinued early next month. The new model is anticipated to offer support for Apple Intelligence, increased storage capacity, and potentially Apple Pencil Pro compatibility.

If you're considering buying any of these products, it's best to wait until September before making a decision. By then, the new products will be released, and the older models may also be available at discounted prices.
