According to sources, Xiaomi is set to launch a self-developed 5G chip in 2025. This chip will be jointly developed by Xiaomi and Unisoc, and manufactured using TSMC's 4nm N4P process technology. It is expected to deliver performance comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, equivalent to flagship chipsets from 2-3 years ago. This isn't Xiaomi's first foray into self-developed chipsets. Back in 2017, they released the Surge S1 chip, which found its way into the Xiaomi 5C. However, Xiaomi hasn't launched a self-developed SoC since.

This renewed venture into the self-developed chip landscape, alongside Unisoc, signifies Xiaomi's ambition in chip technology. It's speculated that this chip will bring significant performance enhancements to Xiaomi smartphones and potentially provide stronger support for Xiaomi's ecosystem products in the future.

In addition to the self-developed chip, Xiaomi is planning to introduce a new buttonless concept phone, internally codenamed "Zhuque", in the first half of next year. The most striking feature of this phone is the complete absence of physical buttons on the sides. Xiaomi will replace traditional buttons with a combination of gesture controls, edge pressure sensitivity, and voice commands. Furthermore, Zhuque will utilize an under-display camera solution and feature a high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen4 processor. Therefore, the release of this concept device is expected to occur after June 2025.

Xiaomi Zhuque embodies Xiaomi's continued exploration of future phone forms. Previously, Xiaomi MIX Alpha, with its revolutionary wrap-around display, captivated the industry but ultimately failed to achieve mass production.
