Huawei's official HarmonyOS Weibo account announced that recruitment for the HarmonyOS NEXT Beta version has officially begun. The scope of this recruitment has been significantly expanded, supporting 16 devices, including the HUAWEI Pura70, Mate60, MateX5, Pocket2, MatePadPro 13.2 inches, MatePadPro 11 inches 2024 edition, FreeBudsPro3, and more.
According to the recruitment page, the registration period is from August 26th to September 13th at 3:00 PM, with the review period from August 30th to September 24th. After registration, it is expected to take 3-10 working days for the review to be completed. Users need to register first and apply through a question-and-answer section. Each real-name account has 3 attempts, and they need to achieve a score of 80 or above to qualify for the test.
It is important to note that HarmonyOS NEXT is still in the early stages of testing and will employ a brand new system architecture. This upgrade may result in incompatibility with certain applications, and some data may not be inherited or saved. Huawei advises users to back up their device data before updating, using methods such as backup to a spare phone, PC backup, or cloud backup.
HarmonyOS NEXT, also known as "Pure HarmonyOS," has a completely self-developed foundation. It removes traditional Linux kernels and AOSP (Android Open Source Project) code, only supporting the HarmonyOS kernel and applications built for the HarmonyOS system. This signifies that HarmonyOS and Android applications will no longer be compatible in the future, and HarmonyOS will completely separate from Android.
According to Huawei's previously announced timeline, the official version of HarmonyOS NEXT will be released in the fourth quarter, and devices like the Pura70 and Mate60 series will be among the first to receive the update.
The commencement of the HarmonyOS NEXT Beta version recruitment marks a significant step forward in Huawei's endeavors to construct a fully self-developed operating system. It also indicates that HarmonyOS will adopt a more independent stance in the future, delivering a novel mobile experience for users.
