HarmonyOS's Pure-Blood Edition Gets App Continuity Feature: Seamless Cross-Device Experience Upgraded

According to domestic media reports, Huawei is adding more new features to its pure-blood HarmonyOS, including app continuity. This update will further enhance HarmonyOS's multi-device collaboration capabilities, providing users with a smoother and more convenient cross-device experience.

HarmonyOS divides its multi-device collaboration features (Free Flow) into two categories: "Cross-Device Migration" and "Multi-Device Collaboration," representing sequential and parallel interactions over time, respectively.

Cross-Device Migration (Sequential Interaction) refers to the user's target task being completely transferred to Device B after finishing on Device A, with no further actions required on Device A. For example, users can seamlessly transfer web browsing tasks from their phone to a tablet to continue, without needing to do anything further on their phone. Currently, cross-device migration includes features like the multi-device task center and super desktop.

Multi-Device Collaboration (Parallel Interaction) refers to the user simultaneously using Device B to assist with related tasks while using Device A. For instance, when watching videos on their phone, users can cast to a smart screen and use their phone as a remote control. Currently, multi-device collaboration includes features like phone remote control for smart screens and wireless screen casting.

HarmonyOS with the Single Framework further enhances cross-device migration and multi-device collaboration by introducing two representative features: App Continuity and Native Interconnection Capability.

App Continuity enables seamless connection between devices, allowing users to switch between them without repeating actions and continue their previous state. For example, while browsing a webpage on their phone, when the phone screen goes off or returns to the home screen, the tablet's dock bar will directly display the browser Deco. Clicking it will automatically jump to the page the user was browsing on their phone, instantly loading into the corresponding process without any further actions needed on the phone.

Native Interconnection Capability refers to applications on different devices being able to access and share data with each other for more efficient collaboration. For example, users can insert images from the WPS application on their Huawei phone/tablet, thanks to the native capabilities of "HarmonyOS with the Single Framework."

As the HarmonyOS with the Single Framework continues to evolve, Huawei will offer users a more intelligent and convenient cross-device experience. It is reported that the official version of the pure-blood HarmonyOS will be first launched with the Mate70 series around November this year, marking a new stage in the development of HarmonyOS and ushering in an exciting future for users.
