Apple will hold its 2024 fall event on September 10th, where it will unveil the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series and other new products. According to the latest news, the controversial Indian supply chain has begun mass production of the iPhone 16, taking on orders for some Pro versions.

Sources revealed that Indian production lines are currently assembling entry-level iPhone 16 models as well as some Pro versions. It is understood that Indian factories assembled approximately 30 million iPhones last year and further increased their production capacity to 18 million units in the first half of this year. These devices are not only supplied to the Indian domestic market, but also exported to the US. Therefore, after the launch of new phones in September, US consumers may be able to buy both Chinese and Indian-assembled iPhone 16 models.

It is worth noting that the production capacity of Indian factories has always been a subject of concern. There have been reports of low yield rates in the past. In response to these concerns, Liu Yangwei, chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry, the parent company of Foxconn, addressed the issue in August, stating that if the Indian factorys yield rate were only 50%, he would have already withdrawn.

Liu Yangwei's statement indicates Hon Hai's confidence in the Indian factory and hints at the continuous improvement of its production standards. As India plays a more prominent role in the global supply chain, Apple will rely more on Indian factories for iPhone production, which will bring higher cost-effectiveness to Apple and also help the company further expand its market in India.

However, the production capacity of Indian factories still faces challenges, such as infrastructure development, worker skill levels, and supply chain stability. Apple needs to overcome these challenges to ensure that the quality and efficiency of iPhones produced in Indian factories can meet market demands.

Overall, the start of iPhone 16 mass production in Indian factories signals Apple's efforts to diversify its production base and reduce reliance on a single market. This will have a significant impact on the global supply chain landscape and offer consumers more choices.
