The "Interim Regulations on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment", issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on May 30th, officially came into effect today (September 1st). The regulations increase the upper limit of wireless charging power for mobile phones from 50W to 80W and specify the operating frequency range for mobile and portable wireless charging devices as 100-148.5kHz, 6765-6795kHz, and 13553-13567kHz bands, with a rated transmission power not exceeding 80W.

The new regulations aim to standardize the market development of wireless charging equipment, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and electromagnetic compatibility of wireless charging devices. At the same time, it provides space for further development of wireless charging technology.

It is noteworthy that the draft for public comments in 2021 limited the power of wireless charging devices to 50W. The new regulations increase the power limit to 80W, meaning that the charging efficiency of wireless charging devices will be further enhanced, allowing users to charge their devices faster.

Furthermore, the new regulations clarify the operating frequency range of wireless charging devices. This regulation aims to prevent interference between wireless charging devices and ensure the stable operation of wireless charging devices.

The new regulations also state that, effective from the date of implementation, the production or import for domestic sale and use of wireless charging devices that do not meet the specified requirements is prohibited. Wireless charging devices produced or imported before this date can continue to be sold and used until they are scrapped.

Regarding some users' concerns about the compliance of MagSafe and Qi2 protocols, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology previously responded to netizens' comments saying that the 325-405KHz frequency band is allocated for aeronautical radio navigation services and is not allowed for use in wireless charging devices in China. MagSafe and Qi2 protocols operate at 360kHz, which is not within the stipulated operating frequency range.

In other words, MagSafe and Qi2 protocols are not affected by the new regulations and can still be sold and used in China.

The official implementation of the new regulations will encourage the further development of wireless charging technology in the Chinese market, offering users a more convenient and efficient charging experience. At the same time, it provides clearer market entry standards for manufacturers of wireless charging devices, guiding them to produce compliant products and promoting the healthy development of the wireless charging industry.
