September 1, 2023: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China announced the official implementation of the "Interim Regulations on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment" which was released in May 2023. These regulations aim to standardize the production, sale, and use of wireless charging equipment, providing clearer standards and guidance for the development of wireless charging technology.

According to the new regulations, starting today, the production and import of wireless charging devices that do not meet the specified requirements for sale and use within China will be prohibited. Wireless charging devices produced or imported before this date can continue to be sold and used until they are scrapped. The implementation of these new regulations signifies a relaxation of the 50W power limit for wireless charging of mobile devices, which was established in 2021. The limit has now been raised to 80W, indicating that flagship phones released in the second half of this year are expected to feature up to 80W wireless charging capabilities.

Looking back to 2021, MIIT had published the "Interim Regulations on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment (Draft for Comments)." Article 4 of the draft clearly stipulated that: Mobile and portable wireless charging equipment shall operate in the 100-148.5kHz, 6765-6795kHz, and 13553-13567kHz frequency bands, with a rated transmission power not exceeding 50W. The introduction of these regulations marked the end of the competition in the wireless fast charging field for domestic Android phone manufacturers. Subsequently, all flagship phones launched adopted a maximum wireless charging power of 50W.

The relaxation of these regulations presents new opportunities for the development of wireless charging technology. Higher wireless charging power will significantly improve charging efficiency, offering users a more convenient and faster charging experience. This will also drive the application of wireless charging technology in more scenarios, such as wireless charging desks and wireless charging cars.

For consumers, the implementation of these new regulations means they will have the opportunity to experience faster wireless charging speeds. For phone manufacturers, it signifies a broader space to research and launch higher-power wireless charging technologies, providing consumers with more appealing products.

It is crucial to note that the implementation of the new regulations also means that the production and sale of wireless charging devices will become more standardized. In the future, consumers purchasing wireless charging devices need to ensure that they meet the new regulations to guarantee their safety and reliability.

In conclusion, the official implementation of these new regulations marks a new chapter in the development of wireless charging technology and heralds the arrival of the 80W wireless fast charging era. With continuous advancements and improvements in wireless charging technology, it is believed that wireless charging will become the dominant charging method for phones in the future, providing users with a more convenient and efficient mobile experience.
