According to Taiwanese media outlet Digitimes, Samsung Electronics is planning to launch its flagship Galaxy S25 series in January 2025. To counter the fierce competition from Apple's first iPhone 16 series with AI chips and Chinese smartphone brands, Samsung will reportedly abandon its in-house Exynos processors and use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4 for all models in the Galaxy S25 lineup.

This decision is not entirely unexpected. TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that due to low yield rates of Samsung's 3nm GAA process, the Exynos 2500 flagship processor would not be available on schedule, forcing Samsung to use Qualcomm chips for the Galaxy S25 series. Tipster @yamazaki1812 also suggested on social media platform X that the Galaxy S25 prices might rise significantly due to the expected 30% increase in the cost of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4. Samsung might pass this cost onto consumers or adopt differentiated pricing for different configurations.

Beyond the processor upgrade, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4's baseband is also attracting attention. Tipster @negativeonehero claims that Qualcomm will release two versions of the Snapdragon 8 Gen4: SM8750 and SM8750P. The SM8750 will include a Qualcomm baseband, while the SM8750P will lack a baseband and only offer Wi-Fi functionality. If this leak is accurate, Samsung may opt to use its own 5G baseband chip alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen4.

The specific configurations and pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series are yet to be finalized, and more information is expected to be released later. However, it is clear that this flagship series will face intense pressure from Apple and Chinese smartphone brands.
