Vivo Remains Weekly Champion Amidst Fierce Competition in China's Smartphone Market
Checking the weekly rankings in the Chinese market has become a habit for many, as it offers a glimpse into the survival status of domestic smartphone brands. Following tradition, industry insider "Wisdom Chip Guide Person" released the latest weekly activation rankings on September 6th. This report covers Week 35, which ran from August 26th to September 1st, showing the following:
Champion: Vivo, with an overall market share of 19.81%, including 14.69% for Vivo and 5.12% for iQOO.
Runner-up: Huawei, with an overall market share of 18.02%, including 15.79% for Huawei and 2.23% for Huawei's Smart Selection devices.
Third Place: OPPO, with an overall market share of 16.82%, including 13.92% for OPPO, 1.40% for OnePlus, and 1.50% for realme.
Fourth Place: Xiaomi, with a market share of 15.48%.
Fifth Place: Honor, with a market share of 15.47%.
Sixth Place: Apple, with a market share of 10.56%.
This week's ranking shows OPPO performing exceptionally well, primarily driven by the sales of the OPPO A3x. However, it's crucial to note that this is an unconventional ranking. In a conventional ranking (excluding Huawei's Smart Selection and realme from OPPO), Vivo still holds the top spot, and Huawei remains second. However, Xiaomi takes third, Honor fourth, and OPPO fifth, while Apple stays in sixth place. It's worth noting that the difference in market share between the brands ranked third, fourth, and fifth is negligible, hovering around 15.4%, showcasing the intensifying competition in the Chinese market.
The report also highlights that Huawei's recent price cuts and promotions have narrowed the gap between them and Vivo. The release of Huawei's new tri-foldable smartphone last week is expected to further boost Huawei's overall sales. It remains to be seen whether Huawei can climb to the top spot.
Vivo continues to be the most stable player in the market, exhibiting a consistently strong performance this year. They have topped the rankings for several consecutive weeks, and this trend suggests they are well-positioned to secure the top spot for the entire year.
However, the competition remains fierce and the fourth quarter is likely to be particularly dynamic. With major brands releasing new products and the iPhone 16 series expected to ship in large quantities, the outcome remains uncertain. The race for market dominance in the Chinese smartphone market is far from over.
