Apple is planning a series of new changes across its iPhone lineup, making the iPhone 16 series a worthwhile upgrade from the current models. While standard models will also see improvements, the Pro models are particularly eye-catching. Reports suggest the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature a 33% reduction in bezel size compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models, leading to a more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable feel in hand. Additionally, the screens on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to be larger this year, increasing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches for the smaller model and from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches for the larger model.

The company might achieve this leap thanks to a slightly larger body, but the reduction in bezel size also plays a part. As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, we can particularly expect thinner bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro models, cutting down by 33% or one-third compared to the current models. With the shrinking bezels and the increase in display size, we can anticipate this years iPhone models to be the largest Apple has ever released.

Last year, Apple introduced the iPhone 15 Pro with a reduction in bezel size from 3.5 millimeters to 2 millimeters. With a further reduction of 33%, we can expect the new models to feature bezels around 1.33 millimeters, which is among the narrowest if not the narrowest in the entire smartphone industry.

To achieve this, the company will employ the Border Shrinkage Structure technology (or BRS) to reduce the bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro. The technology works by bending the wires and circuits near the edge of the display screen. This presents various challenges for Apple's production, but the company has apparently resolved these issues before the iPhone 16 Pro goes into mass production.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 series next Monday, alongside the possible launch of the Apple Watch X and new AirPods. The company is rumored to also release the iPad mini 7 and an entry-level iPad, but recent reports suggest the company will host another event in October for the M4 Macs, where it will also unveil new iPads.
