Xiaomi recently announced a major personnel reshuffle in an internal email, affecting several senior executives including Group President Lu Weibing and Senior Vice President Zeng Xuezhong. The email revealed that Group President Lu Weibing has been appointed as the new President of the Mobile Department, reporting directly to Group CEO Lei Jun. Meanwhile, Senior Vice President Zeng Xuezhong has been appointed as the President of the International Business Department, in addition to his existing role as Head of the Internet Business Department, reporting to Group President Lu Weibing.

This personnel reshuffle signals a swap of responsibilities for the two senior executives in core business units. Lu Weibing was previously responsible for the Mobile Department, Ecosystem Department, Home Appliances Department, China Region, and India Region, while Zeng Xuezhong was responsible for the R&D and production of mobile products. Industry insiders believe that this adjustment aims to optimize resource allocation, revitalize the organization, and accelerate the coordinated development of different business units.

Beyond internal personnel changes, Xiaomi is developing a keyless smartphone codenamed wangshu, a new addition to the Xiaomi MIX series, marking another innovative attempt following the zhuque (Vermilion Bird) launched a year and a half ago. Real-life images have been leaked, showing that wangshu abandons all physical buttons but retains the USB-C port and SIM card slot. It features a curved OLED display and an under-display camera technology, achieving a truly bezel-less design. The devices inscription and system code confirm its belonging to the Xiaomi MIX series.

In June this year, blogger @DigitalChatStation revealed the configuration information of a new laboratory prototype, which is said to feature an "all-domain high-resolution under-display front camera + removal of the pressure-sensitive bar for an ultimate black border + Unibody full-ceramic body". It remains unclear when this device will be mass-produced. Based on comments, it is speculated to be the Xiaomi MIX5.

Recent leaks suggest that the 1.5K all-domain high-resolution under-display front camera solution has been conquered, and manufacturers are now tackling the more challenging 2K under-display front camera technology. It is understood that current under-display camera technology, besides utilizing the self-illumination and transparent properties of OLED displays, relies on lowering the pixel density of the transparent area to enhance light transmittance and improve the image quality of the front camera. The emergence of 1.5K or even 2K resolution under-display camera displays may indicate that phone manufacturers have found a balance between pixel density and selfie quality.

In terms of other specifications, wangshu will be powered by the brand-new Snapdragon 8Gen4 processor, equipped with a 2K120Hz OLED display, a 4500mAh battery, and support for 200W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. It is reported that the Snapdragon 8Gen4 will be the first to adopt TSMC's second-generation 3nm process technology, using a self-developed Oryon CPU and abandoning the Arm reference architecture; it integrates the Adreno830 GPU, supports GPU frame interpolation technology, and its built-in GPU super-resolution and super-frame concurrency technology can replace external dedicated graphics chips, achieving a gaming experience comparable to native high frames.

Based on multiple sources, wangshu is likely to be the new Xiaomi MIX5, with an expected release date in 2025. The most notable feature of this new device is the lack of any physical buttons. Speculations suggest that Xiaomi is exploring diverse interaction methods, including gesture control, pressure-sensitive edges, and even voice commands.
