Apple's controversial FineWoven iPhone cases appear to be on their way out. According to a prominent leaker, Apple is planning to replace the FineWoven material with a new, unnamed material, possibly called "Plain Leather."

Leaker MajinBu posted what are allegedly photos of the new cases on social media, showcasing colors identical to the FineWoven cases but with a different material. The photos show black, blue, deep purple, green, and taupe, carrying over the existing FineWoven colorways and introducing a new light gray option. Bu claims that Apple will maintain these same shades for the "leather" cases for the iPhone 16.

MajinBu initially posted a second image that he claimed was the packaging for the new cases. However, he later retracted this claim, admitting that the image was actually of a counterfeit case. The alleged knock-off case and packaging from China are said to resemble the real product that Apple is planning to release.

For the past two years, Apple has promoted FineWoven cases as an alternative to leather. While the cases provide a pleasant feel, they are prone to scratches from fingernails, easily get dirty, and tend to catch on pocket linings.

MajinBu's leak record is inconsistent, with some predictions proving to be accurate, such as his prediction of the tenth-generation iPad's camera shift to the long side. He has also made some incorrect claims, such as suggesting that the iPhone 15 would feature dual front-facing cameras.

While MajinBu's leaks must be taken with a grain of salt, his latest revelation suggests that Apple might be moving away from FineWoven and opting for a more durable and practical new material. If true, this would be a response to user feedback and demonstrate Apple's ongoing commitment to improving its products and meeting consumer demands.
