iPhone 16 Series Shipment Forecast Upgraded: Standard Model to Lead Sales, Potential Challenges in Q1 Next Year
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a production report on the iPhone 16/Pro series today, predicting that Apple will raise its shipment forecast for the iPhone 16 series in 2024 from the original 87-88 million units to 88-89 million units. Kuo pointed out that the increase is mainly driven by the iPhone 16 standard model.
The report estimates that the iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16 standard, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will have shipment shares of around 26%, 6%, 30%, and 38% in 2024, respectively. This means the iPhone 16 standard model will become the sales leader in the iPhone 16 series this year. It's expected to have shipments of 9 million units in August and 16 million units in September, with current inventory already reaching 15-17 million units to support pre-orders.
While the report shows a 10% YoY growth in Q3 shipments, Kuo also predicts a 5-7% YoY decline in Q4. Analysis suggests the main reason is the strong performance of the iPhone 15 series during the same period last year. Even more challenging, Kuo anticipates a significant 53-55% shipment decline for the iPhone 16 series in Q1 next year, primarily due to the traditional off-season and the potential substitution effect from the new iPhone SE4.
In terms of production, Kuo revealed that the iPhone 16 series is currently being manufactured primarily by Foxconn and Luxshare. Since July this year, Luxshare has become the majority shareholder of Pegatron's iPhone manufacturing business. The two companies are currently responsible for approximately 55-60% and 40-45% of the iPhone 16 series production orders, respectively.
Beyond Kuo's report, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has also made predictions about the iPhone 16 series. He expects all iPhone 16 models to feature haptic camera buttons, with the Pro models boasting thinner bezels and longer battery life. Moreover, Gurman predicts the starting price for the iPhone 16 Pro won't increase from $999, and the focus will be on AI and the A18 chip.
Apple will hold its 2024 Autumn New Product Launch Event at 1:00 AM Beijing time on September 10th, when the iPhone 16/Pro series will officially make its debut. IT Home will continue to follow the latest developments of the event and bring you detailed coverage as soon as possible.
