While the iPhone 16 series has officially announced its adoption of USB-C, there is still controversy surrounding its transfer speeds. Apple's official details reveal that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus maintain the previous generation's USB 2.0 standard, with a maximum transfer speed of 480Mbps (or 60MB/s), the same as the Lightning interface. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, however, continue the USB 3.0 standard of the iPhone 15 Pro, theoretically reaching USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds. However, to experience the 10Gb/s transfer speed, users need to purchase compatible cables themselves.

It's worth noting that Apple has consistently "throttled" USB transfer speeds on its iPhones. Take the iPad Pro as an example, it also uses a USB-C port but supports the 40Gb/s Thunderbolt standard, four times faster than the iPhone 16 Pro/Max.

Therefore, even though the iPhone 16 series finally embraces the USB-C era, Apple seems reluctant to fully unlock its transfer speed potential. This practice raises questions regarding Apple's genuine commitment to the USB-C standard and whether they are intentionally limiting user experience.
