Over the past two days, benchmark scores for the Apple iPhone 16 series have been released. The iPhone 16, powered by the A18 processor, achieved a single-core score of 3114 and a multi-core score of 6666 on GeekBench 6; the iPhone 16 Pro Max, featuring the A18 Pro processor, scored 3018 in single-core and 7751 in multi-core. Comparing the two, they roughly share the same single-core performance, while the A18 Pro demonstrates a clear lead in multi-core performance, achieving about a 16% improvement. Compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max scores (single-core 2968, multi-core 7334), the actual performance gains are not significant. Based on these scores, it seems the Apple iPhone 16 series might be facing a performance setback.

Meanwhile, benchmark scores for the OnePlus 13, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, have been leaked. This device achieved a single-core score of 3236 and a multi-core score exceeding 10,000, surpassing the Apple A18 series across the board. The Apple A-series processors have held a performance lead for years. This time, the Snapdragon platform has overtaken Apple in performance, likely due to Qualcomm's utilization of its self-developed Oryon CPU architecture, employing a new 2+6 design with two ultra-large cores and six large cores. The Snapdragon 8 Gen4 is also manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process, representing a comprehensive upgrade in both architecture and fabrication.

We've observed that the OnePlus 13 in this benchmark has a CPU clock speed reaching 4.32GHz, almost 1GHz higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen3. This raises concerns about heat dissipation, given the exceptionally high clock speed. Earlier leaks of the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 engineering sample showed a clock speed limited to 4.09GHz, resulting in lower scores, with 2884 for single-core.
