The Apple iPhone 16 series has experienced a disappointing opening weekend sales performance, causing a $69 billion drop in Apple's market value. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 16 series' pre-order sales for the first weekend reached approximately 37 million units, representing a 12.7% year-over-year decline compared to the iPhone 15 series. The primary reason for the sales discrepancy is the underwhelming performance of the high-end iPhone 16 Pro series.

The difference is evident in the shipping lead times displayed on Apple's website. On launch night, the iPhone 15 Pro had a 2-3 week shipping delay, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max had a 4-5 week delay. Currently, on Apple's website, the iPhone 16 Pro has a 10-day shipping lead time, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 2-3 week delay.

Kuo notes that the iPhone 16 Pro series' shipping lead times are significantly lower than the previous generation. While Apple has increased its inventory, the primary reason is the lack of consumer demand. The iPhone 16 series lacks any defining innovative elements, and Apple has been using its current design for several years. Additionally, the most significant new smart feature of the iPhone 16 series is unavailable in China, significantly dampening consumer desire to purchase.

In comparison, Huawei's Mate XT, a triple-folding smartphone released on the same day as the iPhone 16 series, has accumulated 6,324,000 pre-orders. Perhaps Huawei's Mate XT offers a sense of novelty for consumers. Additionally, the Mate XT is in a category without any competitors.

The poor sales of the iPhone 16 Pro series reflect consumers' concerns about Apple's lack of innovation. In recent years, Apple has struggled to make significant breakthroughs in product design and functionality, losing its appeal to users. In contrast, new products like the Huawei Mate XT have captured the attention of more consumers with their unique innovations and features.
