Apple is set to officially launch the iPhone 16 Pro on September 20th, alongside other models. However, a recent discovery of a commercial device compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro, has revealed an unexpected outcome. Upon a comprehensive inspection, the two phones appear to be practically indistinguishable in terms of design, save for a few subtle button differences. This implies that if potential buyers are looking for an upgrade with a significant design overhaul, the iPhone 16 Pro is definitely not for them.
A new camera control button is a prominent feature of the iPhone 16 Pro, but from a slight distance, the iPhone 15 Pro appears almost identical. MajinBu uploaded a comparison video on X, showcasing a "side-by-side" comparison of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro. The video clearly demonstrates that both phones have virtually the same dimensions and appearance, making it difficult to discern any differences.
This year, Apple has increased the display size of the smaller "Pro" model from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. However, Apple likely leveraged the rumored "shrinking bezels" technology to make the phone's bezels 40% smaller. This approach allows Apple to offer the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with bigger displays, but with an overall footprint nearly identical to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
We also observe that the camera bump on the iPhone 16 Pro appears to be larger. Perhaps the most noticeable difference between the two is the presence of the camera control button, as it occupies a considerable amount of space on the titanium frame.
In a previous report, it was mentioned that Apple wasn't prioritizing design this year. Instead, they decided to address three user complaints about the iPhone 15 models: overheating, battery life, and the lack of a physical camera button. Unfortunately, these improvements haven't yielded significant benefits for Apple, as pre-orders for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have declined by 12.7% compared to last year. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Plus has seen a 48% increase in pre-orders compared to the iPhone 15 Plus.
