The Nokia N9's unique design continues to impress even today. While Nokia phones have faded from the scene, HMD has brought back the classic. In July, HMD launched the HMD Skyline phone, completely replicating the Nokia N9's front design. It's still highly recognizable even in today's phone market and is now available on JD International.
Beyond the design homage, HMD Skyline incorporates modern technology with a retro detachable solution, emphasizing convenient repair. The official claim is that with just one screw, you can easily open the Skyline's back cover and use a standard toolkit to quickly repair a cracked screen, bent charging port, or replace the battery. This entire process can be completed in 10 minutes.
However, the specifications are a bit awkward. HMD Skyline is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen2 chip and only offers a single storage version with 12GB+256GB, but this comes with a hefty price tag of 2999 yuan.
In terms of the screen, HMD Skyline features a 6.5-inch OLED display with a FullHD+ resolution, a refresh rate of 144Hz, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The front camera is a 50-megapixel punch-hole design, while the rear camera setup includes a 108-megapixel main lens + 13-megapixel ultrawide lens + 50-megapixel telephoto lens.
For battery life, HMD Skyline integrates a 4600 mAh battery that supports 33W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging.
Overall, HMD Skyline pays tribute to the classic Nokia N9 design and incorporates a convenient detachable repair solution, providing a unique experience for users. However, its relatively high price and shortcomings in terms of specs might hinder its success.
