The iPhone 16 series launched globally on September 20th, and although Apple didn't bring about significant design changes to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, they did incorporate several internal changes, addressing complaints from last year's models. The company has maintained consistent build quality, and in our latest durability test, we found that the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max shows minimal bending when force is applied on both sides.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max's durability test results are impressive. The thicker logic board and new battery metal cover are likely contributing factors to the iPhone 16 Pro Max's resilience. This is certainly an improvement over the M4 iPad Pro series, where Apple's 11-inch and 13-inch tablets were quite susceptible to bending.

Shortly after the new models were officially released, Zach, the operator of the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, got his hands on Apple's most premium offering this year the desert titanium iPhone 16 Pro Max. While he expressed disappointment at the beginning of his video about the multi-billion dollar company's lack of design changes, simply slapping on a new model number, he did point out some key new features, first being the new camera control button.

This particular button showed only slight marks when scratched with a Mohs hardness 7 pick, suggesting the use of sapphire material. However, the video creator pointed out that the button doesn't use pure sapphire, likely due to the hardness of the material causing flaws when cutting the shape. He also used a specialized tool to determine if the sapphire used was pure, but the machine detected almost nothing.

The rest of the iPhone 16 Pro Max is made of titanium and glass, with the titanium portion scratching similarly to anodized aluminum. While the scratch and burn tests might offer some exciting content, most readers likely skip to the bend test.

The results are very optimistic, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max showing virtually no bending, whether bent from the front or back. In previous teardown videos, we learned that the smaller iPhone 16 Pro employed a thicker logic board and a metal cover over the battery. We believe these two changes allow the iPhone 16 Pro Max to flaunt its durability, but when we take a closer look at its internal construction, we'll see what makes this flagship "tough."

Of course, that will be the topic for another discussion. For now, please watch the durability test video at the top, and we'll bring you more updates as they come.
