The smartphone market continued to be active in the first half of 2024, with manufacturers releasing new models to compete for market share. Recently, research firm Omdia released its Global Smartphone Model Market Tracker report for the first half of 2024, revealing the most popular models in the first half of the year. The report shows that the iPhone 15 Pro Max remained the global shipment champion, with a total shipment of 21.8 million units, once again demonstrating Apple's dominance in the high-end smartphone market.
In the report, the iPhone 15 series performed exceptionally well. In addition to the Pro Max model, the standard iPhone 15 ranked second with shipments of 17.8 million units, while the iPhone 15 Pro ranked fourth with shipments of 16.9 million units, with all three models making it into the top five.
The Samsung Galaxy A15, with shipments of 17.3 million units, ranked third, the only mid-range product among the top three, reflecting Samsung's competitiveness in the mid-range market. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, a high-end flagship, ranked fifth with shipments of 12.6 million units, making it the highest-selling model for Samsung.
It is worth noting that the standard iPhone 13, which has been released for three years, continues to maintain strong sales, with shipments of 12.5 million units, ranking sixth, indicating that its excellent price-performance ratio and stability continue to attract consumers.
In addition to Apple and Samsung, Xiaomi also has a place on the list. The Redmi 13C, with shipments of 11.8 million units, ranked eighth, proving that Xiaomi still has strong competitiveness in the entry-level market.
Overall, in the top 10 rankings of the global smartphone market in the first half of 2024, Apple accounts for five seats, Samsung accounts for four seats, and Xiaomi accounts for one seat. Among them, six are high-end models, while the remaining models are low-end or entry-level models.
Apple continues to hold a dominant position in the global best-selling models, with three of its four iPhone 15 series models making the list. However, the iPhone 15 Plus, which is positioned as a large-screen model, ranked 28th in global sales, indicating that its overall popularity is relatively low.
Further observation of the global best-selling model rankings in the first and second quarters of this year provides a more comprehensive understanding of market trends.

The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G ranked fourth with a 2% market share, while the Galaxy A15 4G ranked fifth with a 1.8% market share. The iPhone 14 ranked sixth with a 1.6% market share, the Redmi 13C 4G ranked eighth with a 1.5% market share, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy A05 ranked ninth and tenth with a 1.4% market share respectively.
