Xiaomi MixFlip Global Launch: A Foldable Clamshell Phone with External Screen Keyboard and Essential Apps

Earlier this year, Xiaomi unveiled its first foldable clamshell phone, the MixFlip, in China. Last month, the device was released in limited quantities in countries like Bulgaria. Today, Xiaomi officially launched the MixFlip to the global market.

The MixFlip features a 6.86-inch foldable OLED inner screen with a resolution of 2912x1224, supporting 120Hz LTPO and ultra-thin glass. The external screen is a 4.01-inch panel with a resolution of 1392x1208, also supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. Both the inner and outer screens offer peak brightness of 3000 nits and a high-brightness mode of 1600 nits. Xiaomi claims that the external screen supports keyboard input and 200 essential applications, including YouTube and Google Maps.

Hardware-wise, the MixFlip is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and packs a 4780mAh battery. The battery maintains 80% capacity after 1600 charge cycles and supports 67W wired charging. However, it unfortunately lacks wireless charging capabilities.

The MixFlip also boasts a Leica rear camera system, equipped with a 50MP main camera (1/1.55-inch sensor size) and a 50MP 2x telephoto lens. The telephoto lens also provides a minimum focusing distance of 9 cm, allowing close-up photography. The front camera is a 32MP unit for video calls.

The Xiaomi MixFlip starts at 1299 (approximately 10188, 12GB/512GB version) in overseas markets, available in black and purple colors. In comparison, the same version in China retails for 6499.

As Xiaomi's first foldable clamshell phone, the MixFlip demonstrates commendable competitiveness in both design and functionality. The external screen's support for keyboard input and essential applications is a highlight, providing users with a more convenient means of operation. Furthermore, the Leica camera system and powerful hardware configuration add significant competitive advantages. However, the lack of wireless charging may be a drawback for some users.
