Since the beginning of this year, Samsung has been heavily promoting Galaxy AI as a major selling point for its Galaxy devices and a potential new revenue stream. Samsung had also been hinting at the possibility of charging for certain Galaxy AI features in the future. Recently, the company reiterated this plan, revealing that some AI features will become paid by the end of 2025.

Samsung mentioned the paid Galaxy AI features again during the launch of the Galaxy Tab S10 series and Galaxy S24 FE this week. In press releases accompanying the product launches, the company stated, "Certain AI features may become subject to a fee by the end of 2025."

It's worth noting that this is not the first time Samsung has mentioned paid AI features. Similar statements were made in January following the launch of the Galaxy S24 and in July before the unveiling of the Galaxy Z6 series in Paris. However, Samsung has never explicitly stated which Galaxy AI features will be subject to a fee next year.

Earlier this year, Hon Pak, the head of Samsung Health, revealed that the company was considering a subscription service for its health app, but this plan has not materialized. Pak also emphasized that Samsung would offer value for money. "If you really want me to pay for something, you'd better give me something more end-to-end, comprehensive," he said in an interview in February.

Samsung's plan for paid AI features has sparked discussions about the charging model for AI features. Some worry that the paid model might negatively affect the user experience, while others believe that it could help Samsung further enhance AI technology development and application.

How Samsung will ultimately implement its paid AI features plan and which features will be charged remains unclear. However, it's certain that as AI technology continues to evolve, the charging model for AI services will become a significant issue in the future.
