Blogger @DigitalChatStation revealed today that the new OnePlus series phones will fully adopt the Sony IMX882 periscope lens, but will use a thin and light optical folding design, which will result in the loss of the long-focal macro feature. The new Vivo (Blue Series) phones, however, will adopt a different structure for the IMX882 periscope, resulting in a slightly larger size. Through adjustments to the focusing travel, the long-focal macro feature will be retained.
It is reported that the Sony IMX882, also known as LYT600, was first launched on the Realme 13 Pro+ phone. It has an equivalent focal length of 73mm and a size of 1/1.953". The blogger previously revealed that new phones like the Realme GT7 Pro, OnePlus 13, Find X8 Series, and Vivo X200 will all adopt this solution.
The OnePlus series phones choosing a slim and light design and sacrificing the long-focal macro feature is likely to achieve a balance between body thickness and weight. The optical folding design can effectively reduce the lens size, but compromises some optical performance. Vivo, on the other hand, has chosen to retain the long-focal macro feature, which means their new phones will likely have thicker and heavier bodies.
