Binance Founder CZ Speaks Out for the First Time Since Release: Will Continue Investing in Blockchain, AI, and Biotech
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao made his first public comments after his release, pledging to continue investing in the blockchain, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology sectors. The cryptocurrency tycoon posted on social media platform X over the weekend, describing himself as a long-term investor who cares about impact, not returns.
Zhaos remarks come after he reached a plea deal with the U.S. government and paid a $4.3 billion fine. The agreement was reached to resolve charges that the U.S. government levied against Binance for failing to take adequate measures to prevent criminals and terrorist organizations from using the exchange. Zhao himself agreed to pay a $50 million personal fine and was sentenced to four months in prison. He was released from a California prison on September 27.
In his post, Zhao announced a new project called GiggleAcademy, a non-profit online education platform. He wrote: GiggleAcademy will be a big part of my life. Ill also continue investing in blockchain/decentralized technologies, AI, and biotechnology. Im a long-term investor who cares about impact, not returns. Ill also be dedicating more time and money to philanthropy (and education). I have a few rough ideas.
Zhao further stated that he will dedicate more time and money to charity. Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange, is a key player in trading digital assets and related derivatives. As part of the plea deal, Zhao stepped down as CEO, replaced by Richard Teng. The platform also faces continued compliance oversight by the U.S. Justice Department and Treasury Departments Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
While Zhaos release and public statement have attracted widespread attention, the future plans of both him and Binance remain unclear. Although Zhao declared his continued investment in blockchain, AI, and biotechnology, the specific investment direction and scale remain undisclosed. Moreover, the compliance challenges faced by Binance persist, making its future development uncertain.
Zhaos remarks have also ignited discussions about cryptocurrency industry regulation. The U.S. government's penalty against Binance highlights the increasing importance of regulatory oversight on the cryptocurrency industry. In the future, the cryptocurrency industry will face stricter regulations and companies will need to prioritize compliance to achieve long-term growth.
Zhao's first public statement since his release adds new variables to the future development of the cryptocurrency industry and his own career. His commitments and actions will impact the industry, and investors and industry players need to closely monitor his movements and exercise caution in their investments and decision-making.
