Recent reports indicate that flagship chipsets from Snapdragon and MediaTek could see a price increase of approximately 20%-30% compared to their predecessors, potentially leading smartphone OEMs to raise prices for their flagship devices. The recently launched Samsung Galaxy S24 FE presents an intriguing case, as it utilizes the Exynos 2400e chip instead of the Exynos 2400 processor found in the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in some regions. While most details about the Galaxy S24 FE's Exynos 2400e processor remain under wraps, recent ray tracing performance tests (conducted by GSMArena) have revealed some interesting results.

According to the tests, the Galaxy S24 FE, powered by the Exynos 2400e, outperformed the iPhone 16 equipped with the A18 chipset. Notably, the Exynos 2400e is reportedly based on Samsung's 4nm process, while Apple's A18 chipset utilizes TSMC's 3nm architecture. Despite a slightly lower core frequency compared to the Exynos 2400, this modification didn't have a significant impact on performance.

In the SolarBay ray tracing performance benchmark from 3DMark, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE achieved a score of 8242, while the Apple A18 processor scored 6691. Furthermore, the Galaxy S24's Exynos 2400 processor also attained a score of 8743. Based on these performance test results, the Galaxy S24 FE boasts excellent value for money. This is because the phone is priced at $650 for the 8/128GB configuration, while the standard Galaxy S24 launched at $800, and the S24+ (12/256GB) at $1000. This means users can obtain almost 90%-95% of the Exynos 2400's performance at a lower price point.

Moreover, the Galaxy S24 FE is categorized as a budget flagship smartphone, compared to the iPhone 16, which falls under the premium flagship category. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor next year, is also anticipated to pose a challenge to Apple's CPU landscape.

The test results highlight the impressive ray tracing capabilities of the Exynos 2400e processor, even surpassing the Apple A18 processor. This indicates significant strides made by Samsung in chip design, enabling them to deliver competitive performance on more advanced process nodes. The exceptional value proposition of the Galaxy S24 FE signifies Samsung's commitment to establishing a dominant position in the mid-range market and providing consumers with more options. As Samsung continues to optimize its chip design and manufacturing processes, we can expect future Samsung phones to continue pushing the boundaries in performance and affordability, posing a greater challenge to competitors like Apple.
