At 8 pm Beijing time on September 13th, Apple officially opened pre-orders for its iPhone 16 series. On the day of pre-orders, Apple's official website once again encountered the issue of users getting stuck on the welcome page. On e-commerce platforms like JD.com and Tmall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max sold out within a minute of pre-orders opening, indicating high demand. On the first day of sales, scalpers focused on the Pro Max version, marking it up by around 1,000 yuan.

Less than a month later, JD.com's self-operated store shows that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is available in stock in some regions, with the fastest delivery option being next-day arrival. Notably, the iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Gold Titanium is currently in ample supply, while the White Titanium and Black Titanium versions are still out of stock. Apple's official website shows that at Shanghai Apple retail stores, some versions of the iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB are in stock, mainly the Natural Titanium and Desert Gold Titanium versions, while other versions still have a 3-4 week wait.

However, recent reports suggest that Apple may have cut production for the iPhone 16 series in the fiscal quarter ending in December. According to a report by Barclays analysts Tim Long and George Wang, their investigation of the iPhone supply chain revealed that demand was lower than expected, leading Apple to reduce production of the iPhone 16 series, with suppliers of key components also significantly reducing orders.

The report points out that the initial sales of the iPhone 16 series were sluggish. The Chinese version of AppleIntelligence will not be released until 2025, which may dampen early enthusiasm for the iPhone 16 series in the Chinese market. Europe may also roll out AI in stages in 2025, potentially impacting Apple's sales.

Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is readily available in stock, with next-day delivery in some areas. However, Apple may have already cut production for this quarter. Does this mean the market performance of the iPhone 16 series is not meeting expectations? How will Apple respond to market changes in the future? These are questions that deserve continuous attention.
