Huawei officially announced that it will begin public beta testing of its HarmonyOS NEXT pure-blood Hongmeng system on October 8, 2024. The first batch of compatible devices will include the Mate60/X5 series smartphones and the MatePad Pro 13.2-inch series tablets. HarmonyOS NEXT represents a major revolution for the Hongmeng system, released on August 4, 2023, marking the official abandonment of Linux kernel and Android Open Source Project code, embracing a fully self-developed Hongmeng kernel and system.
HarmonyOS NEXT only supports applications built on the Hongmeng kernel and system, and is no longer compatible with Android apps This means users will experience a new, completely independent pure-blood Hongmeng ecosystem.
