Investment bank Morgan Stanley had previously told investors that iPhone 16 sales were lagging behind expectations. However, they have recently changed their stance, stating that Apple will not cut orders for the iPhone 16 series. While the iPhone 16 series has been on the market for a shorter period than the iPhone 15 series, sales of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max seem to be significantly better. Morgan Stanley attributes this to the lead times cited by Apple, although Apple has not publicly released any details on iPhone sales or production numbers.

In a note to investors, Morgan Stanley indicated they believe improved supply conditions are helping to shorten lead times. The firms own supply chain checks showed no changes to iPhone 16 model orders.

However, Morgan Stanley has its eye on another, smaller product the iPhone SE4. They point out that the iPhone SE4 is "increasingly showing signs of a 2025 volume launch." In other words, Morgan Stanley expects the iPhone SE4 to be released in March 2025 and benefit from the addition of Apple Intelligence. Analysts believe this will make the new iPhone "more attractive than most legacy iPhone models that don't support Apple Intelligence and/or are priced higher."

Morgan Stanley views the iPhone SE4 as Apples play to capture sales in the lower-end smartphone market, as described by analysts. The analyst previously predicted 15 million units of iPhone SE4 production and sales, but now predicts 15 to 20 million units depending on whether or not the iPhone SE4 will support Apple Intelligence. However, Morgan Stanley believes it will, aligning with recent rumors surrounding the device.

Morgan Stanleys analysis suggests that while iPhone 16 series sales may not be meeting expectations, they remain optimistic about Apples future. They believe the iPhone SE4 will be the "savior" for Apple Intelligence and will succeed in the low-end smartphone market.
