Apple Implements New Rules for App Store in EU, Developers Must Provide Contact Information
Apple announced yesterday (October 17th) that new regulations will be implemented on the App Store in the EU, effective immediately. All developers distributing apps in the EU must provide contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
According to Apple's official announcement, starting today, Apple Developer Program account holders or administrators submitting app updates on the App Store in the EU will be required to enter their business identity in AppStore Connect. If you are a business, you will need to provide your own business information first before submitting your app for review. Starting February 17, 2025, all apps without a business identity will be removed from the App Store in the EU until the business identity is provided and verified.
Apple stated this move is to ensure compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) regulations. As defined in the DSA, a business is "any natural or legal person acting for purposes relating to their trade, business, craft or profession, whether or not they are public or private, including any person acting in their name or on their behalf."
According to Articles 30 and 31 of the DSA, Apple is required to verify and publicly disclose the contact information of all businesses distributing apps on the App Store in the EU. Businesses must comply with the DSA requirements and provide contact information to Apple, including address, phone number, and email address. After the contact information is verified, Apple will display it on the App Store product page when the business distributes apps in any of the 27 EU regions.
It is important to note that developers are required to set up a business identity regardless of whether the app is distributed in the EU or not.
Apple stated that this move is to ensure EU users can easily contact app developers and resolve any issues related to apps.
The implementation of these new regulations means all developers distributing apps on the App Store in the EU must comply with the new rules and provide complete contact information. It is believed that these regulations will help improve transparency and user experience in the app market in the EU.
