OPPO ColorOS15 Explores the Future of AIOS: Intuitive, Integrated, Personalized, Secure
On October 17th, OPPO officially unveiled its latest ColorOS15 at its annual ODC developer conference. The system features OPPO's self-developed Smooth Engine that delivers a remarkably smooth experience, while also incorporating system-level AI. After the launch event, Chen Xi, Design Director of OPPO ColorOS, and Zhang Jun, Product Director of OPPO AI Center, engaged with the media in an interview to offer insightful explanations regarding ColorOS design, OPPO's AI strategy, and related technologies.
At this year's ODC24, OPPO presented its vision for the future of AIOS, defining it as a crucial component of AI-powered smartphones. OPPO believes that AIOS will evolve through three stages: the first stage, AI for System; the second stage, System for AI; and the third stage, AI as System.
Commenting on this perspective, Zhang Jun, Product Director of OPPO AI Center, stated that AI is no longer confined to singular functionalities but has become a deeply integrated system-level experience. This evolution necessitates the convergence of multimodal interactions and the orchestration and integration of AI platform resources. It also necessitates a higher level of hardware demands for AI phones, as multimodal interactions require enhanced perception capabilities and place new demands on on-device computing power.
Zhang Jun emphasized that OPPO will focus on multimodal and personalized experiences, with a core emphasis on end-to-end cloud collaboration. OPPO will prioritize placing computationally intensive processes on the device, aiming to enhance security, real-time responsiveness, and user experience.
Chen Xi shared their vision for the future of AI, outlining four core elements: intuition, integration, personalization, and security.
- Intuition: This signifies a system that increasingly mirrors human capabilities, possessing similar perceptive abilities to enable natural and human-like interactions.
- Integration: This entails merging information and interactions from various modalities, rather than merely switching between them. The realization of this requires sophisticated complex decision-making and information fusion comprehension technologies. The system needs to simultaneously process multiple input sources, such as visual information and voice commands, and then process them in a collaborative manner. OPPO's objective is to create AI assistants that function like real-life assistants, capable of "seeing, speaking, and acting" simultaneously.
The most prominent highlight of the newly released ColorOS15 is its fluidity. To address Android's smoothness issues, ColorOS15 introduces a self-developed Smooth Engine, consisting of Aurora Engine and Tidal Engine. As a system-level rendering and drawing architecture, Aurora Engine creates a parallel drawing framework to enable simultaneous rendering of multiple animations. By the time the previous animation ends, the system initiates simultaneous drawing of two screens, enhancing the user's perception of smoothness. The new Tidal Engine provides chip-level performance solutions, leveraging two core technologies: self-developed intelligent dynamic caching and full-stack algorithm acceleration to ensure the chip's resource supply capability.
In response to inquiries about future advancements in user experience fluidity, Chen Xi stated that while system-level fluidity has reached a relatively high standard, the primary focus moving forward will be on improving fluidity within applications. Particularly for frequently used applications like WeChat and Douyin, OPPO will prioritize enhancing the consistency of their fluidity experience.
Chen Xi explained that this will require in-depth optimization from the chip to the system layers, utilizing resource allocation adjustments at the underlying chip level to enhance application performance.
Chen Xi also emphasized that the ColorOS team's understanding of "lightness and fluidity" has undergone a qualitative transformation. Instead of solely defining fluidity by speed, the ColorOS team has conducted extensive "human factors research" to quantify user's qualitative experiences of "fluidity," enabling more effective product optimization.
He further indicated that each manufacturer will have its own niche in the future competition surrounding AI systems. AI system providers, application developers, and hardware manufacturers all have distinct paths and strengths. OPPO's advantage lies in its ability to provide natural user scenario solutions by combining hardware. The ColorOS team will continue to address users' needs for depth and pain points, introducing innovative technical solutions to deliver an enhanced experience.
The release of ColorOS15 signifies a substantial step forward for OPPO in the AI domain. The company will continue to explore the possibilities of AIOS, aiming to provide users with a more intelligent and convenient experience.
