iPhone 16 Series Sees a Sales Surge in China, Up 20% in First Three Weeks, But Overall Sales Still Decline

Recent data reveals a strong performance by the iPhone 16 series in the Chinese market, with sales surpassing those of the iPhone 15 series by a fifth in the first three weeks compared to last year. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 16 series saw a 20% increase in sales during its first three weeks of release in China. This achievement demonstrates that the new iPhone models are outperforming their predecessors, attracting a wider consumer base.

Specifically, the high-end Pro and Pro Max models have witnessed even more significant growth in sales. Compared to the same period last year, their sales have surged by 44%. This indicates that consumers are gravitating towards higher-priced models, seeking more powerful performance and features.

However, despite the impressive sales growth of the iPhone 16 series, overall iPhone sales in China for Apple have still declined by 2% year-on-year. This phenomenon can be attributed to two primary factors: escalating competition from Huawei and a decline in sales of older iPhone models.

In recent years, Huawei has consistently enhanced its smartphone lineup, posing a robust challenge to Apple with its powerful performance and innovative features. Concurrently, with the introduction of the iPhone 16 series, sales of older iPhone models have also dwindled, contributing to Apple's overall sales decline.

Previously, numerous analytical firms, including JPMorgan Chase, had predicted an improvement in Apple's sales in the Chinese market after several quarters of decline. However, the strong initial performance of the iPhone 15 series in China failed to sustain itself, with sales plummeting significantly after several months. While the iPhone 15 series' initial sales exceeded expectations, market enthusiasm did not endure.

The outstanding performance of the iPhone 16 series indicates that Apple still possesses strong competitive power in the Chinese market. However, facing pressure from competitors like Huawei and the impact of declining sales of older iPhone models, Apple needs to continue introducing more compelling products and intensify its market promotion efforts to further expand its share in the Chinese market.
