China's Smartphone Market Rebounds, vivo Remains Champion for Three Consecutive Quarters, Huawei Close Behind
In the third quarter of 2024, the mainland China smartphone market continued its rebound trend, driven by the summer and back-to-school shopping season. Total shipments grew by 4% year-on-year to reach 69.1 million units. According to the latest data from research firm Canalys, vivo retained the top spot with a 19% market share, shipping 13 million units, a 25% year-on-year increase.
vivo further solidified its offline sales by launching new mid-range products, and simultaneously expanded its online channels, driving shipment growth. It is worth noting that at the previous vivo 2024 Developer Conference, the company announced that vivo phones had topped domestic Chinese smartphone sales for three consecutive years and three quarters. In the first half of 2024, vivo phone sales grew by 5% year-on-year, exceeding the industry average, and it has consistently held the top spot in the market for the past six months.
Closely following is Huawei, securing the second place with 10.8 million units shipped and a 16% market share, a 24% year-on-year growth. Supported by its flagship products, Huawei has maintained market vitality through an aggressive channel strategy, demonstrating strong competitiveness.
Honor ranked third with a 15% market share, shipping 10.3 million units. While Honor's foldable screen products have been well-received by consumers, overall shipments declined by 13% year-on-year, reflecting the challenges it faces in market expansion.
Xiaomi's market performance improved, securing fourth place with a 15% market share and 10.2 million units shipped, a 13% year-on-year increase. Leveraging its "people, cars, homes" ecosystem strategy, Xiaomi has successfully attracted a broader user base, further consolidating its market position.
Although Apple's shipments decreased by 6% year-on-year, its iPhone 16 series' resilient demand allowed it to regain fifth place. Despite the temporary absence of AppleIntelligence services, Apple's strong demand in the high-end market supported its shipment volume.
Canalys research analysts point out that manufacturers are actively innovating in both the mass market and flagship areas, particularly in software development areas like operating systems and AI. These advancements have brought unprecedented driving force to enhance product competitiveness, providing more appealing upgrade options while driving technological innovation in key components.
