Domestic Smartphone Market Q3 Report Released: vivo Leads, Huawei Close Behind, Honor and Xiaomi Compete Fiercely
On October 25th, following the release of IDC's 2024 Q3 report on the domestic smartphone market, another renowned data research firm, Canalys, also published its Q3 report for China. While there are some discrepancies between the data from the two agencies, both reflect the intense competition within the domestic smartphone market, with the gap between major brands gradually shrinking.
Canalys data reveals that domestic smartphone shipments reached 69.1 million units in Q3, marking a 4% year-on-year increase. Summer promotions and the back-to-school season fueled the growth in smartphone sales. Unlike the IDC report, Canalys not only disclosed the top five brand rankings but also provided detailed shipment data for each brand.
vivo secured the top spot with shipments of 13 million units, a 19% market share, and a remarkable 25% year-on-year growth. Following closely behind was Huawei, with shipments of 10.8 million units, a 16% market share, and a 24% year-on-year increase. Honor came in third with shipments of 10.3 million units, a 15% market share, and a 13% year-on-year decline. Xiaomi followed closely with shipments of 10.2 million units, a 15% market share, and a 13% year-on-year increase. Apple rounded out the top five with shipments of 10 million units, a 14% market share, and a 6% year-on-year increase.
Looking at the overall rankings, all but Honor and Apple showed growth, with vivo leading with a substantial 25% increase. Notably, among the top five brands, only vivo enjoys a significant advantage. The gap between the remaining four brands is relatively narrow, particularly between Honor and Xiaomi, which differ by only 100,000 units, a negligible difference.
Regrettably, the report didn't disclose OPPO's data, but it's safe to assume that they have been pushed out of the top five domestically, landing in sixth place with shipments roughly equal to Apple's.
Competition in the domestic smartphone market remains fierce, with no clear advantage emerging among the six major brands. Now that we are in Q4, the final quarter of the year, the competition is expected to intensify. Each brand will unveil and launch their flagship models, and with the upcoming Double Eleven shopping festival, the competition will reach its peak. We eagerly await the outcome and who will ultimately emerge victorious.
