Samsung Electronics released its official financial results for the third quarter of 2024 yesterday. The English version of the Q3 earnings presentation available on Samsung's investor relations website mentioned the upcoming release of XR headsets. The MX/NW (Mobile Experience/Network) chapter of the presentation, under the 2025 Outlook section, states in the MX SEC paragraph: "Improve connectivity among products, including upcoming XR devices, to further elevate user experiences in the Galaxy ecosystem."

IT Home noticed that the word "XR devices" is in the plural form, implying that Samsung may be releasing multiple XR headsets. However, the corresponding Korean version of the presentation only mentions "XR" without any indication of an upcoming release.

At the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, France in July, TM Roh, Head of Samsung's MX business, stated that "a brand-new XR platform will be released later this year." Moreover, in August, GeekBench benchmark database showed information about a Samsung device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen2 processor.

XR technology, as a crucial direction for future technological development, is a key area of focus for Samsung. The "upcoming XR devices" mentioned in the financial report are expected to bring new growth opportunities to the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem.

Specifically, Samsung's upcoming XR headsets could include:

  • VR headset for the general consumer market: This headset might be an evolution of Samsung's existing Gear VR technology, incorporating the latest XR features to deliver a more immersive virtual reality experience.
