All iPhone 17 Series to Feature 120Hz Refresh Rate, Standard Model to Support ProMotion!
According to South Korean media outlet ETNews, Apple plans to equip the entire iPhone 17 lineup with "Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO)" panels, enabling all four models to support a 120Hz refresh rate. The report states that these panels will be supplied by Samsung Display and LG Display.
LTPO technology effectively reduces the power consumption of OLED displays, ensuring that the ProMotion feature doesn't significantly impact battery life. The technology supports variable refresh rates, previously allowing iPhone 13 Pro to drop to 10Hz, while iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro can go down to 1Hz, enabling always-on display functionality. Since the introduction of ProMotion with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2021, the feature has been exclusive to Pro models. Expanding it to the iPhone 17 and its "Air" variant will provide users with a smoother scrolling and video playback experience.
Furthermore, supply chain reports corroborate Apple's plans to revamp its product lineup, replacing the Plus with a Slim (or Air) model in the iPhone 17 series, making it the thinnest iPhone model. Currently, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus still feature 60Hz displays.
With the anticipated release of the iPhone 17 series, Apple is expected to formally announce the new lineup in September 2025, further enhancing user experience.
