Xiaomi 15: Breaking the 3999 Yuan Price Barrier, Ushering in a New Era of Flagships
Xiaomi 15, as the standard flagship model, boasts impressive specifications, but its 200 yuan price increase has sparked widespread discussions. While the increase is not significant, it has still attracted considerable attention from users, considering Xiaomi's reputation for value for money offerings. Crossing the 3999 yuan mark has slightly diminished the pricing appeal of Xiaomi 15, but it has also freed it from the pricing constraints of the Xiaomi numbered series. In a live stream on November 1st, Lei Jun explained, "To be honest, we broke the 3999 yuan barrier this time. 3999 was a mental block for us, because we were determined to keep the price under 3999 yuan, which heavily restricted our cost. With such a tight budget, it became very challenging for us to deliver a truly refined product."
In fact, the Xiaomi numbered series has seen multiple price increases, most notably with the Xiaomi 6. Before the Xiaomi 6, Xiaomi consistently maintained a 1999 yuan price point, capitalizing on its price advantage to capture market share. However, as smartphone consumption upgraded, Xiaomi also faced challenges in terms of quality. The Xiaomi 6 raised the price to 2499 yuan, alleviating cost pressures while significantly enhancing quality, ultimately gaining consumer acceptance.
The 200 yuan price increase for Xiaomi 15 is another manifestation of this quality upgrade. While the starting price of 4499 yuan seems like a 500 yuan increase compared to the previous generation's 3999 yuan, considering the storage configuration, the actual price hike is only 200 yuan. This additional 200 yuan brings powerful specifications, maintains the exceptional feel of the standard model, and delivers an experience that is almost comparable to the Pro version.
As for concerns about reduced value for money due to the price increase, the Xiaomi numbered series doesn't need to worry too much. After all, the Redmi series still focuses on delivering value for money, while Xiaomi can now concentrate on maintaining a sufficiently high level of quality.
