The hard wallet, through the integration of dynamic QR codes, has achieved the functions of "tap, view, scan," providing a more convenient payment experience for groups like seniors, students, and foreign visitors.

Innovative Addition of E-ink Screen, Digital Yuan Hard Wallet "Tap, View, Scan"

Under the guidance of the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People's Bank of China, the Shenzhen branch of the People's Bank of China, and the Shenzhen Municipal Financial Commission, Shenzhen operating institutions have continuously upgraded the functionality of hard wallet cards, innovatively adding an e-ink screen to the 1mm thick card.

"Tap": In April this year, Shenzhen became the first city in China to implement the "tap-to-pay" hard wallet payment function on the digital yuan App. Users can simply tap the hard wallet against a POS terminal or a trusted mobile device to complete payment.

"View": Based on the existing card-type hard wallet, users can clearly see transaction information and wallet balance, improving the user-friendliness of the digital yuan hard wallet for seniors, students, and foreign visitors.

"Scan": By adding a function that displays dynamic payment QR codes, merchants don't need to equip additional devices. They can simply use a mobile phone to "scan" the visual hard wallet payment code, making the operation simple and convenient, greatly expanding the usable scenarios for the digital yuan hard wallet.

A total of 7 hard wallet cards were released, including the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Shenzhen "Ming" Card Theme Visual Hard Wallet, Agricultural Bank of China ChangYOU Pengcheng Visual Hard Wallet, Bank of China Shenzhen City Theme Visual Hard Wallet, China Construction Bank "Qianhai Dream" Shenzhen-Hong Kong Digital Currency Hard Wallet, China Postal Savings Bank Shenzhen Greater Bay Area Visual Hard Wallet, Transportation Bank Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Visual Hard Wallet, and China Merchants Bank Bay Area Starry Sky Visual Hard Wallet.

Issuance: With the continuous increase in the number of inbound travelers, to provide first-class service to foreigners coming to Shenzhen, operating institutions in Shenzhen have deployed 34 hard wallet self-service issuance machines in key areas like airports and ports, making it convenient for foreign visitors to obtain a digital yuan hard wallet upon arrival.

Top-up: Based on the existing support for Hong Kong Octopus top-up, the top-up channels have been expanded to include RMB and foreign currency cash, VISA and MasterCard foreign cards, etc., allowing customers to choose any method of top-up according to their preferred habits.

Scenarios: In April 2024, operating institutions in Shenzhen and major acquiring institutions upgraded their existing 36,000 acceptance terminals to support the acceptance of digital yuan hard wallets, and the renovation of key scenarios like buses and subways is also steadily progressing.
