Apple and Samsung Reign Supreme: Q3 Global Best-Selling Smartphone List Released
The latest report from research firm Counterpoint Research reveals that Apple and Samsung continue to hold an almost monopolistic dominance in the global best-selling smartphone list for the third quarter of this year. The list sees Apple and Samsung taking up nine positions, while only Xiaomi managed to secure a spot in the top ten with its Redmi 13C 4G.
Specifically, the iPhone 15 series swept the top three positions, with the iPhone 14 also making the list. Notably, iPhone Pro models accounted for over 50% of iPhone sales for the first time, indicating a consumer preference for high-end devices. Samsung, meanwhile, secured four spots on the list with its Galaxy A series, while the Galaxy S24 ranked tenth.
Xiaomi's Redmi 13C 4G, thanks to its affordable price and strong performance in emerging markets, has secured a place in the top ten for the second consecutive quarter. This result reflects Xiaomi's continued strong competitiveness in the mid-to-low-end market.
However, for current Android smartphone manufacturers, the gap in average selling prices is widening with Apple. The increasing popularity of Apple's Pro series signifies consumers' willingness to pay higher prices for premium devices. This presents a considerable challenge for Android manufacturers that rely heavily on mid-to-low-end market share.
Overall, Apple and Samsung hold an absolute advantage in the high-end market, while Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi rely primarily on the mid-to-low-end market to maintain their competitiveness. To change the status quo and close the gap with Apple, Android smartphone manufacturers need to seek new breakthroughs in the future.
