As the third quarter of 2024 officially concluded, several research firms released their reports on the latest global smartphone market sales performance. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple's iPhone 15 emerged as the best-selling smartphone globally in Q3, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro, securing the second and third spots respectively. Samsung, with its extensive market coverage and focus on the mid-to-low end segment, secured five positions on the list, including the Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G, and Galaxy A05, ranking from fourth to seventh. Additionally, the iPhone 14 ranked eighth, Redmi 13C 4G ninth, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 successfully entered the top ten.

Apple's impressive performance in the top three positions can be attributed to the increasing user preference for high-end smartphones. In Q3, iPhone Pro series sales surpassed half of the total iPhone sales for the first time, contributing to Apple's push for higher-value devices. Meanwhile, Samsung's competitive pricing and extended software support successfully positioned them in the mid-to-low end market, particularly with their Galaxy A series.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 maintained its presence in the top ten for three consecutive quarters, making it the first time the series has achieved this feat in Q3 since 2018. Samsung's aggressive marketing of its generative AI capabilities played a crucial role in its success. Xiaomi's Redmi 13C 4G, with its strong performance in emerging markets, secured its position on the list for the second consecutive quarter.

Overall, Samsung holds the largest share with five positions on the list of the top ten best-selling smartphones globally, followed by Apple with four models and Xiaomi with only one. This distribution aligns with the trend observed in 2023, indicating relatively stable consumer preferences. Although Apple's share on the list slightly declined, Samsung's share saw an increase, resulting in a combined market share of approximately 19% for the top ten best-selling smartphones.

Compared to the Q3 list from last year, Apple's iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 13 occupied the top four positions, while Samsung's Galaxy A14 4G, Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A04e, and Galaxy A34 5G secured positions from fifth to tenth. Xiaomi Redmi 12C 4G also made the list.

It is worth noting that five of the top ten best-selling models this Q3 are positioned as high-end flagship devices, compared to only four in the same period last year. This indicates that while the overall smartphone market remains relatively unchanged, high-end device sales are experiencing a noticeable improvement.

In the future, the smartphone market will continue to evolve, and competition among brands will become even more intense. Consumer demand for smartphones and preferences are consistently changing, and we anticipate seeing further innovation and breakthroughs.
