Apple's Ultra-Thin Dream Shattered: High-Density Battery Development Fails, iPhone 17 Air Could Be Thicker Than Expected
Apple has faced a string of setbacks in its research and development efforts this year. After struggling with 5G modem and foldable screen development, the latest news indicates that Apple's high-density battery development has also failed.
According to leaks, both Samsung and Apple are planning to launch ultra-thin models next year, named Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim and iPhone 17 Air (also potentially called iPhone 17 Slim). To achieve the ultra-thin design, Apple initially planned to use new materials and technologies in the battery to create a thinner battery with a larger capacity. Sadly, Apple's research failed, and the company has abandoned its initial thickness and battery capacity targets for the iPhone 17 Air.
Reports suggest that due to the lack of battery technology advancements, the iPhone 17 Air won't be able to achieve a thickness of around 6mm, and the battery capacity won't see a significant improvement. This means Apple's ultra-thin phone plan has fallen through, and the actual thickness of the iPhone 17 Air may not meet expectations.
In recent years, Apple has struggled to innovate, failing to keep pace with the times and encountering numerous issues in system development. Its supposed AI technology also lags behind other smartphone manufacturers. These signs indicate that Apple may be on a downward trajectory, even facing the risk of becoming obsolete.
Apple's research failure may be a reflection of its declining innovation capabilities in recent years. In the increasingly competitive smartphone market, Apple needs to constantly push its boundaries to maintain its leading position. Otherwise, it will be overtaken by other manufacturers and ultimately lose market share.
